Harvest Season: Corn silage harvest is underway and the fall harvest will be right around the corner. Please remember to be patient and travel safely on the roads. Here are a few reminders for driving during this time:
- Slow down early. Farm equipment usually travels at 25 mph or less. A triangular slow-moving vehicle sign warns you to reduce your speed
- Do not pass in no-passing zones. It is illegal in Wisconsin to pass farm machinery in a marked no-passing zone, regardless of how slow the equipment is moving.
- Watch for wide turns. Tractors and combines are wide and may swing left before making a sharp right turn, or cross the centerline to navigate tight spaces
- Check for signals. Watch closely for hand signals or flashing amber turn lights that indicate a farmer is turning into a field or private drive.
- Expect low visibility. Dust from corn and soybean fields can reduce your line of sight near rural roadways.
